DIY Cleaning Solution For a Bathroom That Works

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of vinegar

  • 1/4 cup baking soda

  • You can also use essential oils for added fragrance.

Start by mixing together the vinegar and baking soda in a bowl. If you want to add some fragrance, you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oils as well. 

You will need to use more baking soda if the cleaner is not cleaning as well as you would like it to. You may also need to increase the amount of vinegar depending on how much baking soda you are using.

This cleaner is safe to use around the toilet, but it should not be used on acrylic or laminate bathtubs. 

Also, if you have very hard water in your bathroom, this solution may not work as well for you because of the acidity. If that’s the case, you may need to add a few drops of dish soap into the mix in order to get it nice and sudsy.

After you have mixed your DIY bathroom cleaner together, all that is left for you to do is grab a sponge and scrub away! 

The solution will help cut through any dirt and grime on surfaces and leave your bathroom looking sparkling!

Clean tiles, counters, and bathtubs with this solution. Don’t use it on natural stones or unsealed marble.

You can clean your faucets with this cleaner by using a toothbrush to scrub the dirt away.

Polish mirrors with a microfiber cloth dipped in vinegar. It will leave no streaks if done correctly!

Then, use it like a scrubber to clean away at any dirt on these surfaces. You may need to do this more than once though.

To freshen up your bathroom sink, you can use this solution to help scrub away the scum. And if you have glass or plastic mirrors in the bathroom, they will stay streak-free with just a microfiber cloth dipped in this cleaner.

Getting rid of mold and mildew:

If you notice there’s some mold or mildew on your shower curtains, grouting, or tiles, you can try using this solution. You’ll only need a few drops of essential oil for this application!

Removing soap scum: 

To get rid of soap scum around taps and faucets in the bathroom, scrub it away with this cleaner. It should only take a few minutes.

Eliminating unpleasant smell from bathtub:

If you notice your bathtub smells a bit unpleasant, mix up this solution and scrub it down with an old toothbrush. It will help get rid of any foul odors in the bathroom!

Removing stains with DIY cleaning solution for the bathroom:

Since this solution is very acidic, it can help remove stains on surfaces in the bathroom. 

For hard-water stains: 

If you have hard water residue on your tiles and bathtubs, you may be able to use this cleaner to get rid of them.  Just mix the solution together and scrub away with a scrubber!

For rust stains: 

When your bathtub or tile has rust stains, this cleaning solution can help get rid of them. Mix the vinegar and baking soda together like normal, then use an old toothbrush to scrub at the stains until they are gone. If it doesn’t work the first time, try again!

For rust stains on faucets: 

If you have rust stains or water residue on your faucets or other fixtures in the bathroom, you can help get rid of them with this DIY cleaner. Mix it up and scrub away with a toothbrush!

How to clean a bathroom without chemical cleaning products?

Although this solution is all-natural, it’s still very strong and acidic. So if you want to clean your bathroom without using chemical products, just mix the vinegar with water instead. About 70% water and 30% vinegar should be effective for most bathroom surfaces!

Step 1: Mix together the baking soda and essential oils. 

Step 2: Add the vinegar and mix well.

Step 3: Use the scrubber to apply the cleaning solution to surfaces in your bathroom. 

Let it sit for a few minutes then remove with a wet rag! 

Note that this is not safe on natural stone or unsealed marble.

Our Verdict:

This solution was very easy to make and it worked great on my shower head and taps!  The only downside is that the smell of vinegar can be quite strong.

You’ll want to open a window or turn on the exhaust fan as you clean your bathroom with this DIY cleaning solution for the bathroom.
